RIBBED EDGE PLATE - 2

shape

This is what we will be making.
This produces a flatter edge than Plate 1.

The screenshots are from PSP Version 8 but you should be able to use Version 7, too.

You will need Paint Shop Pro.  An evaluation copy may be downloaded HERE
and you will also need the Two Moon Filter which may be downloaded HERE.
A gold gradient of your choice or you may download mine HERE.
(The zip file contains both a PSP 7 and PSP 8 gradient.)

1. Open a new image 350 x 350 pixels, transparent.

2. Click on your preset shapes tool . On the tool ribbon use settings below.

3. Click on the materials palette and set your foreground color to null and your background to the color you want for your plate. I'm using #F7F5E1.

4. Click on the Preset Shapes tool again. Position your cursor at 175, 175. Right click and hold and, while holding down your shift key, pull out a circle almost to the edge of your canvas.

5. Go to Selections>From Vector Object. Go to Selections>Load/Save Selection>Save Selection to Alpha Channel. Click Save. Now go to Layers>Convert to Raster Layer.

6. Position your cursor at 175, 175. Right click and hold and, while holding down your shift key, pull out a circle to the size you want your plate center. You won't be able to see it but that's okay. Repeat Step 5. You should now have this:

plate 2

7. Leave selected but hide this layer (Raster 3). Activate Raster 2 layer and hit your delete key. Deselect.

8. Open your Two Moons Filter and select Rotoblades. Change the first slider to 12 and leave the others at their default of 128 as below. (Note-if your color is very light or very dark you may not see the effect. Adjust your color and try again.)

Apply the filter and you should have this:

Plate 3

9. Add a new raster layer. Go to Selections>Load/Save>Load Selection from Alpha Channel. Choose Selection #1. Load. Using the Flood Fill Fill tool fill your selection with the gold gradient with the settings below:

Go to Selections>Modify>Contract. Contract by 4 pixils and hit the delete key.

10. Make Raster Layer 3 visible and make it your active layer. Go to Selections>Load/Save>Load Selection from Alpha Channel and load Selection #2. Go to Selections>Modify>Expand and expand by 1 pixil. Flood fill with your plate color again. Leave it selected.

11. Add a new layer now if you want a design on your plate center and insert your image on that layer. Set the opacity of this layer to whatever pleases you.

12. Go to your layer palette and right click on any layer. Merge>Merge Visible.

13. Invert your selection. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow. Apply a drop shadow with these settings. H="0", V="0", Opacity="20", Blur="25", Color Black.

14. Deselect and save your image as a tube.
